Ragnarok Online, often referred to as RO, is a massive multiplayer online role-playing game or MMORPG created by GRAVITY Co., Ltd. based on the manhwa entitled Ragnarok by Lee Myung-jin. It was first released in South Korea on 31st of August 2002 for Microsoft Windows and has since been released in many other locales around the world. Then Level Up! Games and Level Up!, trademarks of Level Up Inc., which is owned by Tencent, China’s leading internet service provider took it over. Currently operating and pioneering the online gaming business in the Philippines, Level Up! launched the first Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) know as Philippine Ragnarok Online (pRO). Since 2003, PRO has been a big part of the evolution of online gaming history in the Philippines. Big events like anniversary party, tours, game recognition, cosplaying and tournaments, Ragnarok Online become of the most successful online sensation here in the country.
But this Last February 2015, an upsetting news was announced and posted by the Philippine Ragnarok Online team. Titled; “Philippine Ragnarok Online Moves to a New Home”. Here Philippine Ragnarok Online team share the heartbreaking news that Ragnarok Online will be concluding and closing its local Philippine service on March 31, 2015 after twelve years of service. They want us to know that if they had any other choice, they would have wanted to keep going. Unfortunately, it seems pRO’s journey has now come to its end. Also they want us leave a heartwarming message that we weren’t just a random group of gamers, but one big family. In addition to that all those pRO gamers, Ragnarok was never just a game, it was our second home; a place where we discovered many things about ourselves and about the friends we met and have come to love. Together with the game masters and its many players shared many accomplishments and countless milestones.
The team also announce that though local service would be discontinued, they would like us know that Level Up! and Warpportal are working together in preparing a migration program for Philippine gamers who wish to continue playing Ragnarok on its international servers, entitled International Ragnarok Online or iRO. They want us players to be assured that their both companies will be working hard in making the process as easy as possible for us who want to play Ragnarok Online. pRO said that this coming in April 2015, iRO will open a new server where accounts of Philippine gamers who opt-in to the program will be transferred. They will provide latest information and updates on this within the next few days (The migration website URL will be disclosed as soon as possible.) As their final word, Team pRO thank us for all the memories we shared with them and though they will miss us, they’ll eagerly look forward to cross paths with us again – someday soon, in another world, in yet another awesome game.
